Bike Portland

kePortland is an independent news company dedicated to community-centered transportation coverage in the Portland region. It began in April 2005 as the "Bike Fun" blog written by Jonathan Maus for OregonLive, the online arm of The Oregonian, before Maus launched BikePortland.org as a standalone outlet in July 2005. In 2007, the outlet incorporated under the name Pedaltown Media Inc. and has operated as an independent news business ever since, celebrating its 20th year in 2025. Maus serves as the outlet's founder, editor, publisher, reporter, sales manager, and sole employee a one-person operation funded by individual subscribers and advertisers. Despite its lean structure, BikePortland has earned significant recognition: it was ranked the number one cycling blog in the world by London Cyclist in 2009, named the top online news source in Portland for city government coverage in 2010, won first and second place in the 2015 SPJ Northwest Excellence in Journalism Contest, and received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer in 2015. Maus was also named one of Portland Monthly's 50 Most Influential Portlanders in 2011 and received an Oregon Walks Walkstar award in 2025.
