Conecta Arizona provides news, information, and community resources in Spanish for the Hispanic population in Arizona, USA, and Sonora, Mexico. Conecta Arizona offers a daily stream of news distributed on WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and through media partners that include newspapers, radio and digital news outlets from both sides of the US-Mexico border. It also has a podcast, Cruzando Líneas, distributed online, on the radio, and on WhatsApp.
In the WhatsApp group, journalists, experts and community members share information about the pandemic, social aid resources, and news of the day, and they debate issues in La Hora del Cafecito. Experts are invited to the group during this hour to guide the audience, one on one, live, about the pandemic, immigration, health, finance, business, entertainment, sports and more.
The media organization was created through a fellowship from Listening Post Collective (from Internews) and the editorial help of the journalism organization Feet in 2 Worlds. The WhatsApp news, information and resource service began as a temporary project that has evolved into a media organization poised for growth.
