The Cortland Voice is an online-only news and information platform dedicated to serving Cortland and Cortland County. Since its launch in June 2015, the outlet has established itself as a free and independent source of journalism, publishing multiple daily updates on issues that matter most to the local community. Committed to public-interest reporting, The Cortland Voice focuses on stories that inform, engage, and empower residents, while leveraging social media to reach a broader audience. The publication’s founder, Timothy A. Bennett, was born and raised in Rome, NY, where he cultivated a love for basketball, music, and civic involvement. After graduating from Rome Free Academy as the school’s first Senior Class President on its new campus at Griffiss Air Force Base, Bennett moved to Cortland to attend SUNY Cortland, earning a degree in Business Economics. He spent time exploring career opportunities in New York City and Long Island before returning to Cortland, where he became deeply invested in the community. Bennett acquired a stake in The Cortland Voice in 2017 and purchased full ownership in 2019, driven by a vision that news should be accessible and timely for all. Today, under his leadership, the outlet continues to champion local stories, promote civic engagement, and strengthen the connection between journalism and the community it serves.
