The digital newspaper De Los Cintis is a regional media outlet in Bolivia for citizen journalism that covers the news of the Cintis region, which corresponds to two provinces in the department of Chuquisaca and includes seven municipalities: San Lucas, Camargo, Incahuasi and Villa Charcas de la Nor Cinti province; and Culpina, Villa Abecia and Las Carreras in the Sud Cinti province.
In addition to offering digital journalism from non-capital cities, the distinctive featureof the media organization is that it has established a citizen network for collaboration at different levels of participation. The greatest involvement is that of approximately 20 collaborators distributed in the seven municipalities. They do the reporting tasks and transfer the information by telephone to the editor, who is in charge of guiding the reporting and the journalistic treatment of the information, explains editor and founder Luis Alberto Guevara López, who manages journalism production from the city of Sucre, capital of the department of Chuquisaca and Bolivia.
Another level of participation occurs through six WhatsApp groups with an average of 170 members each, which function simultaneously as a source, audience, and space open to dialogue. The main call to join the groups was made through a WhatsApp link shared through Facebook. The media has now generated some income from local advertising and is analyzing possible business models.
The profile information for this media outlet was collected through desk research and an interview with its founder.
