Diaspora Africa is an independent media organization that reports on the movement of Africans within the continent and across the world. It publishes features, data-driven explainers, and policy analysis that probe migration’s intersections with gender, education, climate change, refugee policy, LGBTQ+ rights, and social inclusion. The newsroom blends grassroots data collection, solutions journalism, and evidence-based research to correct harmful narratives and inform public debate.
Its publishing includes a Storytelling Project that centers lived experience and PASSAGES, a first‑person column on belonging, displacement, and identity. Diaspora Africa also produces Borders and People, a podcast that hosts conversations with migrants, researchers, and culture workers.
Capacity building is a core strand of its work. The Migration Media Hub, launched in 2024 in collaboration with IOM Nigeria, trains early‑career reporters to cover migration with accuracy, ethics, and context; the inaugural Lagos cohort gathered 20 journalists selected from more than 300 applications, and a 2025 Abuja edition focuses on internal displacement with IOM Nigeria and the Embassy of Sweden.
To strengthen accountability, the organization maintains the Migration Monitor, an open project launched in 2024 that tracks abuses, policy shifts, and media representations affecting African migrants. Taken together—journalism, training, monitoring, and resources—Diaspora Africa serves journalists, policymakers, and communities seeking clearer, evidence‑based reporting on African mobility.
