Chilean online newspaper, founded on March 1, 2000. It is the first exclusively digital newspaper in Chile. On November 20, 2001, it closed part of its journalistic content under paid subscription, but as of 2007 it reopened it, completely free of charge. Since 2012, even its historical databases have been freely accessible.
In 2003, it became the first digital newspaper in Chile to be recognized as such by ruling from the Superintendence of Securities and Insurance, that is, it has a status equivalent to that of the written press that is published on paper, including the power to publish legal notices. The print media, led by El Mercurio, presented an appeal for protection before the Court of Appeals of Santiago to reverse said decision, which was rejected by both this court and the Supreme Court in second instance, setting an important precedent in the matter.
