ElToque is an independent platform that provides journalism and communications services to Cuban audiences on economic, socio-political, and legal issues. The agenda is built around the information needs of Cubans, and opportunities to place silenced or under-reported topics in the public debate. It demands transparency from the Cuban government and its officials, and it monitors public discourse, as well as information and analysis of human rights violations.
The ElToque team creates multimedia content from a digital writing operation in nine countries: Cuba, United States, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, and Colombia. In recent years, team members have suffered repression, criminalization, and censorship by Cuban authorities. Many member of the group have suffered forced exile and reintegration difficulties in their new destination countries. These issues, which affect thousands of other Cubans, are also part of the agenda.
The Más Voces Foundation finances ElToque from subsidies and international cooperation projects, collaboration agreements with other international media, and donations from the audience. The professional services provided by the CATAO agency, its commercial arm, are another important source of revenue.
