Emily Writes is a Kiwi activist and author, who runs a regular Substack newsletter that covers a range of topics from social and political issues, family life, and health and well-being. Writes started writing in 2016 with blogs about parenting, after which she went on to publish three books on the topic, the first of which went on to be adapted as a play that has toured across Aotearoa New Zealand. She has written columns on parenting for many outlets across the country, including Metro Magazine, The New Zealand Herald and the New Zealand Women's Weekly, and was the editor of The Spinoff Parents. Since 2020, she has been producing her content via Emily Writes Weekly, where she sends out her writing a few times a week.
Writes runs a subscriber-based model, where free subscribers receive the occasional public posts. Those paying annually or monthly get access to subscriber only posts and the full archive, the opportunity to join the Emily Writes Weekly community and post comments, and also help for more content to become free for others to read.
Writes is a strong advocate for many social and political issues and her work provides a lot of insights into national and international goings-on in a way that is easy to understand.
