Flatwater Free Press

Flatwater Free Press is an independent nonprofit newsroom based in Nebraska and published by the Nebraska Journalism Trust. Established in 2021, it was created to strengthen statewide journalism through investigative reporting and enterprise stories that serve the public interest. The newsroom covers issues affecting communities across the entire state rather than focusing on a single metropolitan area. Its reporting includes government accountability, education, agriculture, the environment, business, health, and public policy, while also prioritizing stories involving historically underrepresented communities. In addition to original reporting, the organization operates public engagement initiatives such as Documenters and makes its journalism freely available for republication by other news organizations.
