Gig Harbor Now launched on September 3, 2021, born from the 2018 closure of Gig Harbor Life, a weekly newspaper the Kitsap Sun published for a decade before parent company Gannett shut it down. Charlee Glock-Jackson, who had been the primary freelance reporter for Gig Harbor Life, refused to accept the loss of local news and spent years rallying community support to create a replacement. She was joined by former state representative Pat Lantz, who served as founding board president and brought organizational expertise to the effort, along with former Kitsap Sun reporter Ed Friedrich and other community members who formed a board of directors and incorporated as a nonprofit in January 2021.
