H-Alter is an independent, non-profit website launched by the Association for Independent Media Culture in 2005. H-Alter has distanced itself from the sensationalism of commercial media from the beginning, and has established itself as a reliable source that covers a wide range of topics.H-Alter publishes well-investigated news and analysis of politics, the economy, civil society, culture, media, and the environment. It also reports on human rights, including national and religious minorities, LGBT rights, women's rights, and social and workers' rights.Throughout its history, H-Alter has run a few high-profile investigative stories that set the narrative on specific subjects for the rest of the media and the public sphere. In Croatia, there are almost no media outlets specialising in environmental topics. Mainstream media cover them only sporadically, and non-profit media organisations only approach this topic through other related issues. However, in 2021, H-Alter established the section Planet Earth, which informs on waste management in Croatian cities, plastic waste, temperature rise, and reports about climate change activism and protests from other countries.H-Alter's mission is to maintain a free media space for journalism. Its activity is essential for the development of civil society, the awareness of citizens, and preserving democratic processes.
