New Pine Plains Herald

The New Pine Plains Herald is a nonprofit, community-focused digital newspaper dedicated to filling the journalistic gap left by the closure of The Register-Herald in 2009, which ended 150 years of continuous newspaper coverage in Pine Plains, New York. Founded in October 2022, the Herald serves towns within the Pine Plains Central School District, including Ancram, Gallatin, Milan, Pine Plains, and Stanford. Its mission is to provide reliable, carefully researched news that highlights local events and developments, cuts through misinformation, stimulates thinking and informed action, and encourages honest and civil discourse on community matters. The Herald publishes a free weekly newsletter delivered every Friday, keeping residents informed and engaged. It is a proud member of the New York Press Association, Lion Publishers, and The INN Network. In 2024, the Herald won four statewide awards from the New York Press Association for excellence in arts coverage, healthcare, local government, and its second anniversary print edition. In 2025, it received the national Community Champion Award from the Institute for Nonprofit News for reporting on accessory dwelling units (ADUs), which helped secure $6 million in funding for low- and middle-income residents across 10 Dutchess County municipalities.
