The Daily Catch is a private, nonprofit, and nonpartisan news organization serving the Hudson Valley towns of Red Hook, Rhinebeck, and Clinton, New York. Founded in 2021 as The Red Hook Daily Catch by veteran journalist Emily Sachar, the outlet delivers incisive local reporting on schools, businesses, farms, government, and community life while applying enterprise and investigative journalism techniques. In 2023, the publication rebranded as The Daily Catch to reflect expanded coverage, absorbing The Hudson Valley Pilot in 2024. Operating under federal 501(c)(3) status, the newsroom maintains strict nonpartisan reporting and does not issue editorials. The team includes staff reporters, editors, a social media manager, and paid internships for high school and college students, emphasizing mentorship and professional development. The Daily Catch has earned widespread recognition, winning multiple New York Press Association and New York News Publishers Association awards for spot news, investigative reporting, and feature writing. Its work has been featured on NPR programs including Rough Translation and All Things Considered. Funded entirely by grants, philanthropic support, and reader donations, The Daily Catch remains committed to providing high-quality, free journalism. Its first print edition debuted in October 2023, complementing its daily online reporting and community engagement initiatives.
