Piauí is a monthly magazine created in 2006 with the aim of telling stories - collected over a long period of time, written with care and aimed at those who enjoy reading. Today, in addition to the printed magazine, Piauí has branched out into other platforms, such as its website, social networks, and face-to-face events.
The idea of enjoyment - in research, writing, and reading - is in Piauí's DNA and, since October 2021, it has been guaranteed to last. Since then, the magazine's founder, documentary filmmaker João Moreira Salles, has stepped down as publisher and financier - and the magazine has started operating with funds from an endowment donated to the Article 220 Institute. The organization, a non-profit civil association, finances a substantial part of Piauí's annual costs - which guarantees the title's existence for years to come, for decades to come (the rest of the expenses are covered by the magazine's own income, earned from subscriptions, newsstand sales, advertisements, and events).
Under this management model, André Petry, editor-in-chief of Piauí, answers exclusively to an Editorial Board made up of seven members. As a result, in addition to its longevity, Piauí has gained radical autonomy. The magazine has no owner or majority shareholder, nor does it depend essentially on an advertiser.
