Sierra Nevada Ally, The

Sierra Nevada Ally is a nonprofit, independent journalism cooperative dedicated to building healthy, informed communities across the Sierra Nevada and beyond, with a particular focus on civics, climate, and cultural reporting from underserved rural and tribal communities in Nevada. Based in Reno, the Ally extends hyperlocal coverage into rural counties, recognizing that statewide decisions made in Carson City affect every Nevadan, including those in areas served by little or no local news. The Ally publishes content at sierranevadaally.org and broadcasts on KNVC 95.1 FM in Carson City, and maintains a strict no-paywall policy, believing that quality local information should be equitable and accessible regardless of economic status. The organization is fully community-funded, maintains a firewall between editorial and revenue, and publicly discloses all donors contributing $5,000 or more annually. Major funders have included Press Forward, LION Publishers, the Solutions Journalism Network, and the Google News Initiative.
