he Electric is an independent news website focused on delivering substantive local journalism for Great Falls and Cascade County, Montana, with dedicated coverage of Malmstrom Air Force Base and the Montana National Guard. The outlet prioritizes accountability reporting on local government, budgets, taxes, municipal policy, economic development, downtown revitalization, food security, agriculture, and military and national security issues.The Electric is a one-person operation run by founder and journalist Jenn Rowell, who brings more than two decades of journalism experience to the outlet. Rowell previously covered city government and military issues for the Great Falls Tribune and reported on military beats for papers in Alabama and Virginia. She has also done communications work for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and the National Museum of Health and Medicine, and has served on the boards of the Society of Professional Journalists and Military Reporters and Editors. She was named 2024 Media Person of the Year by the Montana Library Association.
